Mirror neurons were recently identified and are those that fire when we observe a person take an action and you experience it yourself by simply witnessing it. For example, if you see a person brutally trip over their own foot, your brain fires neurons as if you were experiencing the episode yourself. You relate to the pain and even feel the same embarrassment the person feels. Scientists believe that mirror neurons may be important for understanding the actions of others and for learning new skills by imitating them.
