Jet lag  reduces the number of neurons added to the adult brain that are critical in forming certain types of new memories. The study also found that chronic jet lag also resulted in poor cognitive function that persisted even after a month. It is suggested that to beat jet lag one should rest a day for every hour shift in the time zone.
