Listening to good music gets the brain releasing serotonin and relieves stress hormones, which allows the brain to process and store information more effectively. In a study done involving patients who were about to undergo surgery, one group was given an anti-anxiety drug and the other group was given a pair of headphones. The results showed that the patients who listened to music before surgery had lower levels of cortisol than the group that was given drugs.
