Brain Food: 11 FOODS THAT PROMOTE MEMORY
I teach people how to improve their memory for a living. I know how important eating healthy is for us and our brains. Something important to remember when you are trying to eat healthier is to make sure you have healthy options available. When we don’t have healthy options in front of us it’s hard not to just grab some unhealthy option on your way out the door or on your way to work.
I have eleven foods that I try to keep in my fridge at all times. Not only are they great healthy options, they are also great for your memory. The following are items that are always on my grocery list:
- Avocado
- Almonds
- Water
- Blueberries
- Dark Chocolate
- Apples
- Broccoli
- Kale
- Eggs
- Green Tea
- Turmeric
The green tea is great for our brains because it has caffeine. Caffeine is known as a brain stimulant but it does not have as much caffeine as coffee. Caffeine increases the firing or neurons and the concentration of neurotransmitters like dopamine.
Almonds are a great source of protein. Protein not only provides us with boost of energy but it also helps repair brain cells. They are also high in B6 which promotes brain health as well as vitamin E which slows down the aging of the brain.
Last I want to talk about dark chocolate, cacao specifically. Cacao is a great source for tryptophan, a precursor to serotonin. Seniors who eat dark chocolate have less chances of developing dementia.
