1856 – 1943
Nikola Tesla developed things that were way ahead of his time but he is virtually unknown despite the great contributions he made. Tesla was invited to work alongside Edison but only briefly due to business and scientific differences. It wasn’t until recently that his incredible and important inventions became more recognized.
- Tesla challenged Edison’s direct current system by developing an alternating current that allowed us to distribute power much faster and with minimal loss without having to have a power plant every few miles.
- His Tesla coil generated extremely high voltages allowing radio transmission and radar
- He invented the remote control, first working radio, florescent lightbulb, and the wireless transmission of electricity, as well as the first hydroelectric generating plant at Niagara Falls
