Plato is an ancient philosopher whose writing explored many topics including justice, equality, politics, theology, cosmology, and more. His life was dedicated to the question of virtue and the formation of a noble character.

  • Plato founded the Academy in Athens, one of the first institutions of higher learning in the western world. The Academy was dedicated to the study of biology, astronomy, political theory, mathematics, and philosophy.
  • He theorized that the world we perceive through our senses is deceptive and ever changing and that the world of ideas is the only constant.
  • His study on the use of reason to develop a more fair and just society that focused on equality, set the foundation for modern democracy.
